Dubai has entered into a partnership with Microsoft that will help the local workforce upgrade their skillsets and eventually support the UAE’s digital transformation journey.

The new partnership brings together the Riyada initiative by the Dubai Government Human Resources (DGHR) department and Microsoft’s Tomoh programme aimed at empowering and training Emirati employees.

Emirati workers will be able to shadow Microsoft employees, thereby gaining private sector exposure as well as acquiring new skills  to improve their employability.

“The Riyada programme aims to empower the Emirati workforce and equip them with technical, behavioural and professional competencies. Microsoft will provide support under one of its pillars of its Tomoh Emiratisation programme, which aligns well in delivering central aspects of Riyada, offering internship and secondment opportunities at Microsoft to UAE nationals,” the tech company said in a statement.

“The practical applications will include training and equipping Emiratis with worldwide on the job skills by shadowing professionals within Microsoft, as well as offering them professional certification courses to accelerate their careers,” it added.

The two parties signed recently a memorandum of understanding to effectively bring together the two skills programmes.

The objective of the partnership is to deliver “world-class” training to Emiratis and eventually improve the performance of UAE institutions, said Abdulla Ali Bin Zayed, director general of DGHR.

“We are confident that this agreement will serve to further elevate the emirates as a global innovation centre.

In June, the tech giant announced its Tomoh initiative that is designed to empower Emirati students, graduates and jobseekers who want to pursue careers in technology.

The programme offers trainings, certification and on-the-job experience to UAE nationals.
