STC has reported that its network is currently witnessing a massive growth in traffic for education and health platforms that have been made available for free. The demand growth rate for distance education has increased by 1,000 percent, while it has increased by 177 percent for health platforms. Furthermore, the growth rate for remote work in various sectors has reached more than 567 percent, in addition to a 70 percent surge in requests to download different applications for these purposes. STC said it has managed to accommodate this increase in demand without affecting the level of service provided to its customers.

STC has also secured the network infrastructure for the mobile sector as well as the residential sector to ensure providing uninterrupted home entertainment for all ages. This step was taken due to the rise in demand for home internet by more than 80 percent.

Demand for social media applications increased by more than 73 percent. Additionally, the network has been fortified to accommodate a growth rate of over 240 percent for at-home gaming without affecting the user experience. A 41 percent increase for on-demand TV content, such as Jawwy TV and others, has also been accommodated.

Haithem Mohammed Alfaraj, senior VP of technology and operations, STC, said: “STC has succeeded in meeting this unprecedented growth in the numbers of users of its network and the volume of traffic generated on its mobile and landline networks as well as the networks of the government and business sectors, by making the necessary preparations and fortifying the the infrastructure that serves the health and education sectors in particular, and the remote work sector in general.”

He highlighted the telecom giant’s ongoing pioneering role as a national digital enabler that is providing the needed support to ensure the success of the precautionary measures taken by the government in the interest of public health and safety.

“STC is committed to taking all the precautionary measures to protect its network against any potential cyberattacks by ensuring round-the-clock monitoring and management, especially with the increase in the number of users that are currently relying on STC’s network for their remote work, both in the government and private sectors,” Alfaraj added.
