Samsung on Tuesday unveiled a new foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip, its second attempt to sell consumers on phones with bendable screens and clamshell designs.

Ultrathin glass used for the screen can be folded and unfolded more than 200,000 times and resists scratches, according to Samsung. The Galaxy Z Flip will be available beginning Friday at a starting price of $1,380.

Now, pre-orders are live in the UAE, with price starting from Dh5,499 for 256GB memory.

The company is also offering accidental damage coverage and one-year service care worth Dh499 with every pre-order.

The much anticipated comes amid growing interest in folding handsets, and a similar 'flip' Razr device recently introduced by Motorola.

Pre-order Galaxy S 20 and Galaxy S20+

Samsung also introduced a new Galaxy S 20 Ultra flagship model for its lineup of smartphones synched to new 5G telecommunication networks.

In UAE, Galaxy S 20 is priced from Dh3,199 and Galaxy S20+ from 2 3,599 for pre-orders.

Customers can also trade-up their old phone and save on the new purchase. The company also offers service care and accidental damage coverage for one year.

Galaxy S 20 models boast high definition 8K quality camera capabilities, and the Ultra model zoom magnifies views up to 100 times, according to demonstrations.

Galaxy S 20 5G models have a starting price of $999 and will be released on March 6, according to the South Korean electronics giant, which has been at or near the top of the smartphone market in recent years

The S20 phones are designed to take high-quality pictures in dark settings. The phones can take both video and photos at the same time, using artificial intelligence to zero in on the best moments to capture the still images.

Samsung's S phones already offer the wider angle and some features for low-lighting. But the company says the new phones will focus on high-resolution photos and the ability to zoom in 30 to 100 times, depending on the model.

The S20 phones go on sale in the US on March 6, and will range in price from $1,000 to $1,400. All S20 models will be compatible with next-generation cellular networks, known as 5G, although it's still an early technology that consumers typically won't need yet. The Z Flip will not work with 5G networks.
