ABU DHABI- Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, has said that the UAE holds leading role and undertakes prominent humanitarian efforts to eradicate poverty in different regions and countries of the world, becoming a global model for achieving sustainable development goals.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which falls on 17th October each year, Sheikha Lubna said that the UAE's humanitarian philosophy is based on tolerance, love, solidarity, and providing a decent life for all peoples of the world regardless of their race, nationality, religion and culture.

This philosophy was laid down by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his brothers the founding fathers, and reinforced by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, The Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, Their Highnesses the Crown Princes, and the people of the UAE.

Sheikha Lubna also emphasised the great foreign assistance provided by the UAE, particularly in developing countries and regions with high levels of poverty. "The UAE continues its pioneering efforts to eradicate poverty by supporting international development in general and developing UAE plans and programmes in the development aid sector, in line with the global strategy of the Sustainable Development Goals, which made the UAE the first place in foreign aid for 2013, 2014 and 2016, relative to its national income according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD," she continued.

The Minister of State said that the UAE has accomplished remarkable achievements through its active participation in improving the lives of all peoples and reducing the spread of poverty by improving living standards and supporting the education, health, electricity, water, and other sectors across countries in need of humanitarian aid relief.
