ABU DHABI (UAE) – Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), announced today the signing of an agreement with the UAE Disabled Sports Federation (UAEDSF) to sponsor the UAE Paralympian team until 2021.

Eighteen Paralympians represented the UAE at Rio 2016 Paralympian Games and won a total of seven medals, beating their previous record of four medals in Athens. As part of the sponsorship, Mubadala and UAEDSF will work together to support the UAE Paralympian team in local and international sports tournaments and workshops including the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which will be held from 25 August to 6 September 2020.

Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO and Chief Corporate & Human Capital Officer at Mubadala said, “Mubadala is dedicated to supporting initiatives which encourage all members of UAE society to positively contribute to the achievements of our nation. Our motivation comes from athletes themselves who continually inspire us, and who have conquered adversity through their determination to achieve excellence in their sports. The UAEDSF has been pivotal in breaking down barriers and our partnership gives us a unique opportunity to evolve the conversation towards acceptance and creating an inclusive society that enables people with determination to realize their full potential.”

Mohamed Fadil Al Hamli, Chairman of the UAE Disabled Sports Federation (UAEDSF), praised Mubadala’s initiative in support of the UAE athletes with determination. “Through our joint efforts, we will do everything in our capacity to enable UAE athletes with determination to realize their full potential and shine in local and international competitions,” he said.

Al Hamli called on all national companies to line up in support of the UAEDSF’s activities and the UAE Paralympian team who have made impressive accomplishments at the Paralympics.

In 2016, Mubadala signed an MoU with the UAE Disabled Sports Federation to expand and strengthen Mubadala’s community outreach program. The MoU encompassed cooperation on the participation of athletes with determination at school events in the UAE, aimed at familiarizing students with their capabilities, ultimately encouraging the values of inclusions and empowerment.
