AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the Land Transport Regulatory Commission on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding to create institutional frameworks to develop a unified public transport system, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh and the Commission’s Director General Tariq Habashneh stressed the importance of strengthening communication and providing a coordinated work environment.
The memorandum aims to unify the analytical transport models of GAM and the commission and use them to study, evaluate and plan transport projects.
The merging process is considered the cornerstone of evaluating transportation between Amman and neighbouring cities, according to Petra.
The new model will be based on the transport planning programme Visum, which is designed to predict the demand for public transport services to help make decisions pertaining to public transport networks.
