Doha: Qatar Section of International Society of Automation (ISA) the largest world-wide entity for instrumentation and control engineering professionals, organised an industrial cybersecurity workshop 'The engineering art of injecting and managing Industrial Cyber security within the entire life cycle of the control system'.

Speakers Ayman Al Issa, Chief Technologist & Senior Adviser, Industrial Cybersecurity, and Samuel Linares, Senior Lead Technologist, Industrial Cyber Security Centre, Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., highlighted evolving industrial cyber threats and dilemmas; resolving the human conflict and understanding the role of IT & OT; safety integrity levels; security levels strategies and policies; engineering design of industrial cybersecurity solutions; enhancing cybersecurity within brown oil fields; designing defence in- depth model for new green fields; and case studies on evaluation of automation systems from cybersecurity perspectives, among others.

The workshop was attended by 65 engineers, mostly from oil and gas companies in Qatar.

In view of high demand of automation in major industrial sectors in Qatar, ISA Qatar Section is playing a vital role in technical upgrade, awareness of latest automation and control system technology, regular updating of technical standards and practices being used in hydrocarbon industries, control and instrumentation;  conducting regular technical presentations, symposium and conferences in various fields by experts from around the world.

However, ISA Qatar's main objective is to link local engineers with global technological advancement and work as a forum to bridge the technical gap between the industry and local institutes to develop Qatari engineers.
