ArabFinance: Hitachi ABB Power Grids was awarded a three-year contract by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) for the new reliability-based digital service solution RelCare, according to an August 30th press release.

The deal is expected to upgrade the power infrastructure through innovative system models while paving the way for the connection between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

GCCIA will become the first customer of the RelCare service, the press release added.

The Gulf authority will use Hitachi ABB’s solution to remotely monitor the maintenance of substations across the six GCC member states.

"The RelCare solution also increases safety due to the reduction of site-visits required, whether that be a transmission or distribution substation, a connection substation for a renewable plant, data centers, industries, or a smart mobility charging station,” Hitachi ABB’s Country Managing Director of Egypt and North Africa Mohamed Hosseiny commented.

Hosseiny previously stated that Hitachi ABB Power Grids joint venture (JV) would transform Egypt into Africa’s energy hub.

The JV announced last March a project that would enable major grid expansion across the Arab republic.
