As Dubai's preparations for Expo 2020 swing into full throttle to welcome millions of visitors and participating countries, the organisers of the mega international event are closely following the trajectory of the coronavirus, that is wreaking havoc worldwide.

An Expo 2020 Dubai spokesperson said: “The safety and well-being of everyone visiting Expo 2020 Dubai is of paramount importance to us, and we’re working closely with the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention to apply the guidance that they have provided.

"Expo does not open until October this year, and we will continue to follow the situation closely. We are hopeful that global efforts will succeed in managing the virus,” he added.

Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to start on October 20 this year and run through April 21. The event, dubbed as the world's greatest show, will have millions of visitors and 192 participating countries.

The international mega event is expected to entertain and educate a global audience, celebrate, innovation, promote progress and foster cooperation.

Expo 2020 is a long-term investment for the UAE and is expected to have a significant positive impact on the UAE’s economy now, during, and after the event.

According to E&Y analysis, Expo 2020 Dubai will have direct benefits to Dubai and UAE from a direct increase in economic activity due to the event.  Construction activity is expected to drive Expo-related activity in the Pre-Expo period.
