H.E Mohamed Al Hammadi becomes only the 8th public personality to be granted an Honorary Doctorate in the history of Ajou University

Abu Dhabi: Ajou University, a leading engineering university in South Korea awarded today an Honorary Doctorate to His Excellency Engineer Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). The leadership of Ajou University awarded the Honorary Doctorate as recognition of H.E. Al Hammadi’s commitment to Excellence in Engineering, Energy, and his role in the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program to improve relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and South Korea.

The Honorary Doctorate ceremony took place at the Ajou campus in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, about 30 km south of Seoul. His Excellency Abdullah Saif Ali Al Nuaimi, UAE Ambassador to South Korea, witnessed the ceremony together with Ajou University Board members, graduate students, South Korean Government officials, and academia.

At the ceremony, Al Hammadi started by thanking the leadership of the Abu Dhabi Government for the honor of serving his country through the development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. He also highlighted the transformational role that the program has had in the consolidation of bilateral relations between the UAE and Korea, while providing careers in nuclear energy to the next generation of Emirati leaders, as well as jobs to Korean professionals.

“This recognition is a testament to the UAE and its focus on the development of specialized skills and knowledge, and encouraging the exchange of expertise to support next generation of Emirati leaders. This is a result of the unwavering commitment by our wise leadership to develop capabilities and advance technology and innovation in the UAE,” added Al Hammadi.

Ajou University President Mr. Hyungju Park highlighted the fact H.E. Al Hammadi becomes the eighth public figure to receive such a distinguished honor. President Park also highlighted the potential for further collaboration in the field of energy, electricity economics and artificial intelligence, three areas where Ajou University leads research and development in South Korea. President Park invited Mr. Al Hammadi to become an ambassador for energy, electricity economics, and artificial intelligence and to represent the University globally. 

Mr. Al Hammadi welcomed this responsibility and met with university professors in energy, electricity, and artificial intelligence to discuss the future of the electricity sector and national grid security. 

Ajou University is one of the leading research universities in Engineering, Energy, and Information Technology. It was established in 1973 and was the first higher education center in South Korea to open a dedicated center to energy. The University counts with 14,000 students and is on track to deliver its Vision 2023 to become the best University in Asia in the 21st century.
