JEDDAH: Albayraq -- Saudi Arabian Airlines' VIP service -- is ready for takeoff after the arrival of new Airbus A319 aircraft, according to a top Saudia Private Aviation official.

The new Riyadh-Jeddah service was to begin in mid-February, offering VIP fliers the opportunity to experience a high-quality service in cooperation with Saudia Private Aviation.

But the airline failed to start operations in February due to some logistic problems.

After repeated inquiries from frequent flyers to Riyadh-Jeddah sector, Faisal Ghazi Kayal, managing director of Saudia Private Aviation, clarified to Arab News that the new jet is arriving in Jeddah this week.

All other logistics to operate Albayraq VIP service are in place now, he said.

"After the arrival of the new aircraft from Lufthansa Technik AG, Hamburg, Germany, and test flights (soft launch) we will launch the new VIP service by mid May."

Taking this opportunity, Kayal expressed his gratitude to all Saudia Private Aviation and Saudia staffers for making this project a reality.

During the launch announcement in late December, Saudia Director General Saleh N. Al-Jasser said Albayraq VIP service will operate daily between Riyadh and Jeddah from February.

Al-Jasser said: "Albayraq service is an expansion of the airline's strategy 2020 and the airline will take special care of its passengers at its Saudi Private Aviation's VIP lounges in Riyadh and Jeddah."

Al-Jasser said Albayraq service coincides with Saudia's 2020 strategic plan that aims to take the airline to greater heights, doubling its fleet and number of passengers during the next five years.

He noted that Albayraq service will operate 12 scheduled flights per day between Riyadh and Jeddah starting 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Airbus A319 aircraft.

Kayal said during the launch Albayraq service has been developed to serve VIPs and businessmen who frequently fly between Riyadh and Jeddah. "The service will be catered toward individuals, corporate and government clients, who require either annual daily blocked or ad hoc seats," he added.

Saudi Arabian Airlines  recently announced the launch of flyadeal, a new low cost carrier, which will serve both domestic and international routes.

Headquartered in Jeddah, flyadeal is expected to begin domestic operations in mid-2017 using one class A320 aircraft and will subsequently serve both domestic and international flights, Al-Jasser said.
