Iraq has revealed it intends to set up large oil and gas projects in the Southern Dhi Qar Governorate in partnership with foreign companies.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi disclosed the plans, which he said would give a strong positive impact on the Governorate's economy.

Kadhimi also said there are plans to restart several projects that have been stalled because of cash shortages, internal hostilities and management by contractors.

"The government has plans to undertake large projects in the oil and gas industry in Dhi Qar...these projects will be carried out through foreign companies and they will have a big positive effect on economic development and jobs in the Governorate," Kadhimi said after meeting local officials, according to Aliqtisad News and other Iraqi publications.

Kadhimi did not elaborate on the projects but OPEC member Iraq has been locked in a post-war reconstruction programme covering hydrocarbon, housing and other sectors.
