Dubai:Three UAE-based entities pledged support to building a new heart center in Egypt as part of the Arab Hope Maker’s Humanitarian Cause of the Year.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Al Ansari Group and GEMS Education will make a financial contribution to support the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center in Egypt that will provide free-of-charge cardiac care and open-heart surgeries to the region’s disadvantaged families, especially children, unable to afford treatment.

Contributions will be announced at the Arab Hope Makers final grand show, scheduled to take place at Coca-Cola Arena, City Walk, on February 20, 2020. The announcement of contributions will complement the variety show’s proceeds that will be allocated to support building the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center in Egypt.

The new center will conduct 12,000 heart surgeries annually, of which 70 per cent will target children, and will receive over 80,000 patients annually.

It will expand access to a world-class treatment among vulnerable communities through a fully-equipped facility with the latest research and surgical technologies and qualified medical cadres. The new facility will provide free-of-charge cardiovascular care to patients across the Arab world.

Utilizing advanced tech

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said, “Humanitarian work is a main principle that sets the UAE apart as the world’s most generous country that topped the list of donors of official development aid.” He added, “The Arab Hope Makers initiative that honors the value of giving starts a new phase by supporting an exceptional Arab humanitarian project that contributes to the healthcare industry and utilizes advanced technologies to save lives. The RTA is keen to be part of this excellent initiative that drives and ensures sustainability of humanitarian work across the Arab world.”

Responsibility

Mohammad Al Ansari, Chairman & Managing Director of Al Ansari Exchange, said “Supporting humanitarian and charitable work forms an essential part of Corporate Social Responsibility among entities in the UAE. The Arab Hope Makers that launched from Dubai to honor philanthropic efforts and instill the values of giving has extended its reach to involve institutions, reinforcing their role in serving humanity. We are proud to contribute to building the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center in Egypt that will provide free-of-charge cardiovascular treatment in the Arab world.”

Better future

Sunny Varkey, Founder and Chairman, GEMS Education, said, “Through the Arab Hope Makers initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we aim to build a better future for all. I firmly believe in the initiative’s cause and in the power of hope as a force for good and for driving positive change. I also believe in the power of education to change lives for the better and inspire hope. Healthcare and education are two critical sectors to any economy and must always go hand in hand. We are therefore delighted to be part of this initiative, which will help build one of the largest cardiac disease hospitals in the region. The Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre in Egypt will not only provide world-class healthcare but also raise awareness about heart disease as well as support cardiovascular disease research and development. I look forward to its success as we collectively work towards a brighter tomorrow.”
