United Arab Emirates Chevrolet Middle East announced today that ekar, the first and largest carshare operator in the Middle East, has added 100 Chevrolet Spark vehicles to its fleet in the UAE.

Founded in 2016 with the aim to facilitate users’ daily commutes, ekar gives motorists in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the option to rent a vehicle per-minute, day, week or month, through an application on their mobile phones.

Commenting on this partnership, Luay Al Shurafa, Managing Director, Commercial Operations, General Motors, Africa and Middle East said: “We are very excited to see 100 Chevrolet Spark vehicles join the fleet of such a modern, convenient and flexible carshare operator. At General Motors, we are continuously working on innovative solutions moving us closer to our global vision for a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion. This partnership with ekar made perfect sense as another stepping stone in this direction, allowing us to leverage the advantages linked to car sharing and helping reduce unnecessary congestion.”

Vilhelm Hedberg, Co-Founder and CEO, ekar, United Arab Emirates added: “When we launched ekar, we had a simple vision in mind, a vision to facilitate users’ commutes through a seamless platform allowing them to get around the city any time they want without going through the lengthy process of a traditional car rental service. We are thrilled to have the Chevrolet Spark, such a convenient practical and parking-friendly nameplate, join our fleet. This partnership with Chevrolet is helping us deliver on our mission to give users a better experience every day and we are confident the Chevrolet Spark will quickly become a very popular member of our fleet.”

With ekar’s flexible booking structure, drivers in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah can avail the Chevrolet Spark through the ekar app to drive across the streets of these Emirates and pay for only what they use down to the minute.
