Geotechnical investigation contracts comprised drilling more than 400 boreholes, reaching a maximum depth of 60 meters

Doha, Qatar: Advanced Construction Technology Services (ACTS), the leading consulting organisation in the field of construction materials and geotechnical engineering, has revealed that it has completed geotechnical investigations and geophysical surveys on five construction packages of the metro lines being executed in Doha, Qatar.

The Doha Metro will be one of the most advanced rail transit systems in the world. It will have four lines - namely the Red, Green, Gold and Blue metro lines - planned over a total length of approximately 240 km, and will feature 106 stations over the whole network. Designed to cover the Greater Doha area, the Metro will be underground for the central city networks, and will mainly be at ground level or elevated whilst at the outskirts.

In line with the terms of the investigation contracts, ACTS worked on the Red Line South Elevated and At-Grade with FCC Construction, S.A. - Yüksel İnşaat, A.S. - Archirodon Construction (Overseas) Company, S.A. - Petroserv Limited Joint Venture, whilst carrying out geotechnical investigations and engineering services along with the related testing works on another four of the main metro construction packages.

ACTS deployed 16 drilling rigs, state-of-the art field testing equipment, and six geophysical teams comprised of expert geophysicists. The work package included pumping tests and necessary in-situ tests at the stations and along the tunnel/elevated structures alignment, in addition to its geotechnical investigations and geophysical survey (for cavity mapping) assignments.

Engr. Khaled Awad, Chairman of ACTS, said, "Today's construction projects call for specialization and the adoption of game-changing technologies to ensure the delivery of the highest quality work. ACTS' unique specialization in surface and underground rail projects positioned us well for this multi-project challenge.  We are pleased with our strong resources in rail geo-engineering which perfectly complement our vast experience in concrete technology, quality control and testing for such projects. It is this portfolio of knowledge-based capabilities and vertical specialization that is enabling us to keep pace with the demands of modern infrastructure projects in the GCC, including the Doha Metro."

ACTS has been involved in some of the most important infrastructure projects around the Gulf region, providing a range of quality control services including inspection and supervision, monitoring of mass concrete, testing and evaluation of various materials as well as audit for asphalt and concrete production facilities. ACTS was commissioned to do quality control work on megaprojects such as King Abdulaziz International Airport and the Kingdom Tower, the world's first kilometre-high skyscraper currently under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The company was also awarded one of the subcontract packages to carry out geotechnical and geophysical works on Riyadh Metro Lines 1 and 2 in support of the BACS (Saudi Arabian Bechtel, Almabani General Contractors and Consolidated Contractors Company WLL and Siemens Aktiengesellschaft) Consortium.

Since its establishment in 1996, ACTS has become a regional reference in construction consultancy services and a pioneer in achieving technological advancements in the materials and geo-engineering fields. The company is also the local sponsoring group of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the world's leading authority on concrete construction and production, for its certification programmes in the Middle East.
