Cairo –  Egypt’s Suez Canal has generated $27.2 billion in revenue for the last five years, the chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabea said.

About 90,000 vessels have crossed Suez Canal with a net tonnage of 5.5 billion tonnes over the last five years, Rabea added in a statement on Thursday.

Since the beginning of 2020, Suez Canal has achieved revenues of $3.3 billion as around 11,250 vessels have crossed the canal with a total net tonnage of 693 million tonnes, he revealed.

This came during the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the new Suez Canal inauguration.
