MANAMA: stc Bahrain has seen doubling of consumption of Internet services in the last few months with citizens and residents at home using it for work, education, socialising and entertainment.

This was revealed by the company’s chief executive Nezar Banabeela during a webinar yesterday.

Mr Banabeela said although the outbreak of the coronavirus is having a significant impact on production and supply chains all around the world, the network operator continues to deploy necessary equipment and manage workflows to maintain and upgrade existing infrastructure.

He said the mobile broadband sector is poised for further growth and the company continues to expand its 5G coverage which now extends to 50 per cent of the population, with high mobile subscriber penetration paving the way for adoption.

As precautions against the spread of Covid-19, stc Bahrain took all the necessary measures to ease the progression of its business customers knowing the importance for small and medium companies to stay connected with their teams and customers, in addition to directing their operations in an efficient and seamless manner.

“We continuously monitor and identify our customer needs and requirements. stc Bahrain is playing an active role in enabling the local community and businesses to stay connected on its fully functional network, while adopting proactive measures to protect its people and the wider audience and help limit the spread of coronavirus infection,” Mr Banabeela said.

The company has also provided its employees with flexibility to work remotely, with about 90 per cent of its workforce currently operating from home.

stc Bahrain has also extended its support to its customers who are remotely working from home and students using virtual schooling, by providing free data bandwidth and free data streaming of platforms such as Google classroom, MS teams for education, Edunet and UOB blackboard used by majority of schools in Bahrain.
