The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) adopted a strategy that aims to introduce the latest technologies of e-commerce in Egypt, Chairperson of ITIDA, Hala El Gohary, said during her inaugural speech at the E-Commerce Summit 2019, on Tuesday.

ITIDA’s strategy seeks to encourage the digital exports of Egyptian companies, she asserted, noting that her agency supported 19 Egyptian startups working in the e-commerce sector over the past period.

“We have supported 19 startups through development and capacity building programmes in various aspects of e-commerce, especially data analysis,” El Gohary noted.

E-commerce has a good opportunity in the local market which is growing rapidly, taking into consideration that Egypt is the first Arab county in terms of numbers of internet users, El Gohary said.

“We support the e-commerce market indirectly, through cooperating with other government entities to enhance the business climate so as to encourage more companies to start new businesses,” El Gohary said.

Several regulatory reforms have been taken recently to attract more investments and boost governance of the private sector to achieve more revenues, El Gohary concluded.
