France has confirmed that it would participate in the 2021 edition of the World Expo in Dubai with a reinvented pavilion.

It is the second country after Switzerland to affirm its participation in the next year’s edition of the World Expo in Dubai from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.

On Monday, the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) had approved the request of the UAE government and its Executive Committee to postpone Dubai Expo 2020 to next year.

“The one-year postponement will give France the opportunity to reinvent its Pavilion to better suit today’s global challenge of innovative eco-friendly and user-oriented mobility solutions,” the office of France’s Commissioner General for the World Expo 2020 Dubai said in a press statement.

The postponement, supported by France and by more than two-third of BIE’s Member States, is set to be approved by BIE on 29 May.

The statement said Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ is now more important than ever given the current health crisis.

The statement said construction of the France Pavilion by contractor BESIX is continuing and is under the Emirate authorities’ health and safety rules.

The France Pavilion, titled ‘Light, Lights’ was designed by Atelier du Prado Architectes and Celnikier & Grabli.
