BERLIN - The German government does not want to follow the United States in generally banning products made by Chinese firms such as Huawei, said spokespersons for the economy and interior ministries on Friday.

Such decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, which would remain the case for the time being, said the economy ministry spokesperson at a regular government news conference.

The U.S. administration this week banned approvals of new telecommunications equipment from China's Huawei Technologies and ZTE because they pose "an unacceptable risk" to U.S. national security.
