Statistics agency INSEE said Tuesday

France's public sector deficit for 2023 climbed to 5.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), or 154 billion euros ($167 billion), statistics agency INSEE said Tuesday.
The earlier official government deficit estimate was 4.9 percent of GDP but Public Accounts Minister Thomas Cazeneuve had recently said it would exceed that, citing a global economic slowdown as the main factor.
