Indian sugar mills produced 3.7% more sugar in the first three months of the 2022/23 marketing year that started on Oct. 1 than a year earlier, the Indian Sugar Mills Association said on Tuesday, as more mills are operational this year.

Mills have produced 12.07 million tonnes of sugar so far in the season, up from 11.64 million tonnes produced during the same period a year earlier, the trade body said in a statement.

At the end of December, 509 sugar mills were operational in the country against 500 mills a year ago, it said. (Reporting by Rajendra Jadhav; Editing by Christian Schmollinger)
