Tokyo stocks closed higher on Tuesday after a series of public holidays in Japan, as investors took heart from Wall Street rallies overnight.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index gained 1.57 percent, or 599.03 points, to end at 38,835.10, while the broader Topix index added 0.65 percent, or 17.69 points, to 2,746.22.
