BEIJING - China has great concerns over Japan's chip export control on China, a Ministry of Commerce official said on Wednesday.

China expects Japan to provide a fair, non-discriminatory and predictable business climate for firms, Li Fei, Assistant Minister of Commerce, said during an economic partnership consultation with Japan, according to a Chinese Ministry of Commerce statement.

China hopes Japan can safeguard bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Li said.

In January, Japan and the Netherlands agreed to comply with export restrictions against China's chip sector that the U.S. government had announced in October 2022, media reported.
