Elon Musk-owned Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) has commenced the operation of Starlink services in Nigeria.

“Starlink is now available in Nigeria – the first African country to receive service!” the company said in a tweet on the official page.

Starlink provides satellite internet access to about 46 countries, targeting the global mobile phone service after 2023.

Nigeria’s Communications Minister Isa Pantami said last week that the country achieved 100% broadband coverage following the licensing and operation of SpaceX’s Starlink, Premium Times newspaper reported.

“Based on the National Broadband Plan, we were to have 90% broadband coverage by December 2025,” he said, adding that the Starlink license has given the country 100% coverage three years before schedule.
