The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) signed a usufruct contract with Wadi Solar, an Oman renewable energy company, for the allocation of land within Suhar Industrial City for the installation of a 100 MW capacity solar photovoltaic project. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Suhar Industrial City.

The project will be established as part of Madayn’s comprehensive strategy to provide a large part of the energy needs of its tenants from a sustainable source of renewable energy in line with the sustainability goals of Madayn 2040 Vision. The station aims to provide the cost of electricity for tenants in Suhar Industrial City as an initial stage, in conjunction with attracting new investors, and increasing the competitiveness of all companies within the industrial cities in Madayn and free zones, as the station provides sustainable energy solutions for the economic and social environment for all investors in Suhar Industrial City, relying on renewable solar energy.

The anniversary celebrations were held under the auspices of Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones. Total investment in Suhar Industrial City amounts to RO 2.300 billion with more than 360 industrial projects operating in an area of 29 million sq metres.

Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Madayn, stressed that the Corporation will focus in the coming period on establishing specialised industrial complexes, and introducing the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution in the current factories.

Hamad bin Hamoud al Qasabi, Acting CEO of Madayn, added that the Madayn is working to establish a complex for plastic industries on an area of 1 million sq metres. Raw material for the complex will come from OQ Group.
