Dubai, UAE, May 26, 2009:  The estimations may have varied wildly as to whether Dubai had a quarter or a third of the world's total number of cranes, but one thing is for sure - on Saturday, it saw the world's largest hydraulic crane in operation on its maiden venture in the city.

Standing at a massive 20 metres tall, the German-manufactured LTM 11200-9.1 stopped shoppers in their tracks at the bustling Deira City Centre as the crane carried out maintenance work at one of Dubai's most popular malls.

Deira City Centre was the crane's first client as it assisted in completing the work in less than 30 hours in what would have otherwise taken an approximate 20 days.

The monster machine can lift up to 1,200 tons and cover an area over 100 metres wide.  Only eight of this machine is to be manufactured and this is the first one to be released in the world.
