Dubai: Maker Faire Dubai 2019, which will be held in conjunction with the UAE Month of Innovation from 26-28 February 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, will open a window for visitors to hear inspiring stories and rich experiences from innovation leaders.

For three days the exhibition will present a group of Emirati and international innovators as well as a group of officials from the private sector in Dubai whose works are linked to innovation and to tools that contribute to enhancing innovation and sustainable development.

The youngest inventor in the world

Among the innovators at the exhibition is Fatima Al Kaabi, an Emirati and UAE’s awardee as 2015 Youngest Inventor of the Year. She will share her story which began during her childhood and was strengthened by her parents’ nurturing and with the support of the government. Among her inventions are intelligent steering system to prevent text messages from being sent while driving, and a robot as a remote attendant that goes to school on behalf of sick children who cannot attend their classes.

Fatima Al Kaabi will participate in the conference with an inspirational speech entitled “Young Inventors and Their Impact on Communities”, which will showcase her pioneering experience in innovation and the role her family has played and the support from the government that made her the most deserving awardee as the youngest Emirati inventor.

Administrative leadership

The exhibit will continue to present experiences and the corresponding responsibilities of innovation pioneers as will be hosted by HE Huda Al Hashimi, Assistant Director General for Strategy and Innovation who oversees the Strategy and Policy Sector to promote government innovation of the emirate, through development of ideas and trends in this field, at Mohammed Bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Ministry of Cabinet Affaires and Future. Her core role is to ensure the successful execution of the UAE Vision 2021, and the strategy of the UAE government to ensure the development of consistent government policies with the vision of the UAE in all areas of life, in addition to overseeing governmental accelerators, which is the first governmental platform to address challenges.

Emirati superiority in the United States

The exhibition will further stand as a platform for stories of creativity and excellence as will be led by UAE architect Reem Marzouki, the first UAE national to obtain a patent in the United States for a design of a car that can be operated without the use of hands. This huge achievement did not stop Reem and instead she continued on to lead an invention that allows interaction with autistic children and an x-ray microcontroller design that detects the ratio of materials in solid and liquid products.

Regional and global experiences

Ahmed Al Saleh, co-founder of EBOT, Chairman of Creative Bits Solutions Company, co-founder of Maker Academy, and producer of Maker Faire Kuwait will be one of the speakers to discuss the topic “Towards Economic Sustainability Through Innovation”. Al Saleh has led a career in innovation that led him to acquire three winning patents as co-author of teaching and learning materials for K-12 grades, participation in writing the Architectural Framework and Curriculum Design Document for engineering material, and delivery of training to local and international teachers spanning across Japan to Boston in the United States of America.

Expert Dale Dougherty, the world’s leading advocate of the Maker Movement, executive director of the Mac Group of America, and founder of Make:Magazine 2005, which used the term ‘makers’ for the first time to describe people engaged on “hands-on” work and play. Dougherty will deliver a speech on “What is the Maker Movement?”.  He will also talk about his experience as a founder of Maker Faire Exhibition, which supports and nurtures industry and innovators around the world, when it was launched in 2006 in San Francisco. The movement has spread to more than 40 countries and is today’s platform for more than 1.5 million visitors worldwide.
