Intel's Viiv Technology and the latest Intel Dual Core processors now available on selected Dell DimensionTM Desktops

Dubai, UAE, 30th January 2006 -- Dell announced the introduction of Intel's Viiv digital home technology on selected Dimension dual-core desktop platforms for customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). 

Intel Viiv technology incorporating Intel Dual Core processors, Microsoft Media Center Edition 2005 and Native Command Queuing Hard Drives along with a host of additional peripherals, gives customers the ability to serve music and video content to Viiv and Media Center compatible consumer electronics around the home, whilst working on the PC. Viiv is now available on the Dell Dimension 5150C and the 9150.

With a Viiv ready Dell Dimension PC, users control the films, music, games and photos they want to enjoy, both from personal collections and from a host of online service providers verified to work with Intel Viiv technology.  All files can be accessed quickly with instant on/off functionality that allows the Dell Dimension entertainment PC to turn on quickly like a TV after the initial boot.

Key components of Viiv systems from Dell are:
Microsoft Media Center Edition 2005 with a 10 foot user interface
Dual Core CPU's - Enable simultaneous usage, faster performance
Quick Resume Technology - System wakes up quickly when needed, but appears off
High Definition Audio - 7.1 Channel Audio to enhance the user's Audio Experience
Gigabit NIC - Dimension 9150 only

To coincide with this, Dell is also announcing the availability of the latest Intel Pentium D Dual Core processors on the Dell Dimension 9150 and XPS 600. These new Intel Pentium D 9 series Dual Core processors offer enhanced performance with twice the cache capacity. The new processors are equipped with 2MB of cache for each of the two cores, delivering a total of 4MB cache (2x2MB1), driving performance and productivity on multi-threaded applications to new levels. The new Intel Dual Core processors that will be available are as follows:

Intel Pentium D 920 Dual Core Processor (2.80GHz, 800Mhz, FSB, 2x2MB cache)   
Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.00GHz, 800Mhz, FSB, 2x2MB cache)       
Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.20GHz, 800Mhz, FSB, 2x2MB cache)       
Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.40GHz, 800Mhz, FSB, 2x2MB cache)       
Intel Pentium D 955 Dual Core Extreme Edition Processor (3.46GHz, 800Mhz, FSB, 2x2MB cache) with HyperThreading Technology2

There are now 2MB cache on each of the cores, compared to previous Dual Core processors that only contained 1MB per core.

The Intel Pentium D 955 Extreme Edition processor is only available on the XPS 600 platform.
