Kuwait - June 2nd, 2010: Under the auspices of H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, the honoring ceremony of the 'Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award' was held on Wednesday May 26, 2010, at the Salwa Sabah Al-Ahmad Theatre and Hall.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Vice-President of the National Guards Sheikh Machaal Al-Ahmad, the Prime Minister H.H. Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and other sheikhs, ministers, state officials and eminent personalities.

After the national anthem, Sheikha Ayda Salim Al-Ali Al-Sabah, President of the Board of Trustees, gave her inaugural speech in which she indicated that the 'Sheikh Salim Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award' has changed and driven the technology and informatics sector forward in the belief that investment in the digital field was one of the most profitable investments.

The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah awarded the 'Informatics Medal,' the highest award that could be offered in the informatics development field, to Arab Sat, the leading satellite services provider in the Arab world, for the outstanding role it plays in connecting the Arab world with the latest modern technology.

Engineer Khalid Ahmed Balkheyour, CEO of Arab Sat, said: "We are very pleased to have won this award. Kuwait is a leader in the field of Arab media and seeks to support economic and social development in both the Arab and Islamic worlds. It also plays a major role in the development of Arab Sat".

His Highness also honored individual and corporate winners from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Algeria. Participating governmental organizations were also awarded in addition to academic bodies, research centers and civic institutions.

This year's edition engaged 282 volunteers from Kuwait and the Arab World while 23 evaluation teams have led the evaluation of 3750 entries.
