Bahrain and Kuwait spice mixes, packaged in Dubai

Initiative to showcase Arab culinary flavours

Dubai, UAE - Shama Food Industries, the UAE's leading spice manufacturer, launches exclusive spice flavours from the Gulf at Gulfood 2008, the region's premier food exhibition to be held from February 24 to 27 at Dubai International Convention Centre. An initiative aimed at showcasing authentic Arab flavours, Shama's new spice mix launches include the popular Bahrain Bizar and Kuwait Bizar.

Bahrain Bizar, a mix of 12 spices, is immensely popular in the Gulf, given Bahrain's prominence as an ancient spice trade hub. Typically very mild, Bahrain Bizar is a spice mix of choice for Arabs. Kuwait Bizar is a blend of eight spices, which gives a distinct flavour to the delicacies. The launch of the Bahrain and Kuwait Bizar follows Shama's earlier introduction of two UAE spice mix flavours - Bedouin and Hadar - which have gained strong market response.

Mr Saeed Ahmed Khalifa Bin Humaidan, Chairman, Shama Food Industries, said: "Arabia has a rich history in spice trade, but with time, the original spice mix flavours associated with the region's true culinary traditions have been lost or not preserved. By introducing authentic Arabian spice mixes, we aim to conserve our culinary heritage and also offer customers the convenience and choice of enjoying the true Arab culinary experience."

Mr Giri Nair, Marketing Director, Shama, added: "All our Arab spice mixes are prepared from fresh Indian spices, which are blended and packaged in our modern factory in Dubai. This ensures total quality control and authenticity to the flavours. The spice mixes are prepared following extensive research regionally."

The Arab spice mix market has been traditionally unorganized with home-makers preparing the spice mixes themselves or resorting to spice dealers, who make random mixes. "This means the mixes do not have the required consistency and is a tedious process for customers," added Mr Nair.

Shama Food Industries is participating in Gulfood for the fourth consecutive year. Last year, Shama highlighted the tradition of Indian biryanis at the exhibition and introduced four flaovurs, all of which are popular in the market now.

Shama's stall at Gulfood can be visited at Sheikh Maktoum Hall, M4.
