1 November 2015, Dubai - UAE: Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) was once again recognised, this time as the GCC Financial Centre of the Year at an awards ceremony in Dubai.
The award was received by Sadiq Hamour, Director of Business Development at the QFC.
Mr Hamour stated, "On behalf of the QFC, I would like to thank the judging panel for their recognition of the QFC's success," he said. "What we have achieved is the result of the team's collective efforts," he continued. "At the QFC, we remain committed to facilitating our firms' success by both enabling local firms to expand regionally and attracting international firms to Qatar to benefit from the growing business opportunities here, thereby allowing us to continue contributing to the diversification of both Qatar's and the region's economies."
The Middle East Capital Markets Summit is hosted by Global Investor Magazine and the award recipients are nominated by representatives from the financial sector. Shortlisted entries are then put to a judging panel made of regional experts and Global Investor Magazine editors, who review the organisation's achievements between May 2014 and May 2015.
The QFC had an exceptional 2014 with over 20% growth in firms and this growth will exceed 30% in 2015. The platform was also expanded in 2014 to allow professional and business services firms to set up and the QFC introduced a ground-breaking scheme to allow cash reimbursement for tax losses.
"The QFC has long been at the forefront of financial markets development across the Middle East - and 2014-15 was no different," said Sean Keating, Editor of Global Investor."
