The Architectural Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) has hosted a number of well-received lectures relating to architecture. In attendance were Professor William Alsop, one of the UK's most prominent architects, and Mr. Kai-Uwe Bergmann.
Prof. Alsop delivered a lecture entitled "Working in Different Cultures," in which he spoke of his perception of architecture and how his practice at the international level is based on both vehicle and symbol of social change and renewal. Prof. Alsop added that his philosophy extends from the design of individual buildings to embracing broader principles of urbanism and city development. Moreover, he perceived the whole process of architecture as being one of increasing fluidity and transparency, and he revealed new and refreshing directions for architecture. He showed that art and architecture are inseparable disciplines; his paintings and sketches have been exhibited alongside his architectural projects in dedicated exhibitions, galleries and museums.
In a subsequent lecture, Mr. Bergmann approached modern architectural trends and his personal experience in architecture. He is a former Project Architect in Copenhagen where he was took part in three award-winning competitions. Mr. Bergmann has nine years' experience as Project Leader Central Asia countries, where he is managing a current project on the Caspian Sea.
