The Public Relations Department at Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" extended an invitation to media representatives to attend the press conference held on Thursday 10/04/2008 prior to the workshop on (Improving Energy Consumption Efficiency of Qatar Electricity Sector) held in coordination between "KAHRAMAA" and the Economic and Social Commission ?for Western Asia (ESCWA).
The workshop is held at Doha InterContinental Hotel under the patronage of Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, during the period of 15-16 April 2008.
Public Relations Department Manager Eng. Nasser Ali Al Mohannadi, Eng. Yousef Ahmed Janahi, The Corporate Planning and Business Development Manager, Head of Conservation Section Eng. Mansour Al Mohannadi, and Eng. Hassan Al Hail, The senior Planning Engineer at Customer Services Department participated in the press conference.
Eng. Nasser Ali Al Mohannadi made a speech at the beginning of the conference saying, "KAHRAMAA endeavors to provide electricity and water services that comply with vital health standards and other objectives the Corporation seeks to achieve".
He pointed out that both Kahramaa and ESCWA teams working together for 20 months to examine rationalization in some areas came with a study showing that rationalization recorded 550 MW during the last years. The outcome of this study will be announced by the end of the workshop to find out most energy consumption sectors including the industrial sector.
Al Mohannadi added that the research introduced a number of suggestions aiming at cutting consumption in factories including operation beyond rush hours.
On his part, Eng. Yousef Ahmed Janahi said that following the instructions of "KAHRAMAA" Chairman, H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, the corporation signed the contract with (ESCWA) due to its background in this area and the whole world and the great experience (ESCWA) team gained in this field specifically.
Eng. Mansour Al Mohannadi said that the most important indicators related to the output of this study are the rationalization of rush times' loads especially during the summer by 550 MW (22.3% of total consumption in Qatar during 2005), and the reduction of annual electric power consumption by 2.33 GW/ hour (19% of the overall consumption in 2005). This saved about $ 574 Millions of annual fuel consumption, $ 325 Millions of investments required for generating plants, in addition to $ 92 millions of investments in transmission and distribution plants due to the reduction of rush times' loads and environmental discharge by 1.3 Million ton for carbon dioxide and 5.4 Thousands ton for nitrogen oxide annually.
On his part, Eng Hassan Al Hail stated that the corporation seeks to set up a plan for energy consumption, as (ESCWA) and "KAHRAMAA" team conducted some studies on different areas in the state.
He added that most important frameworks of the study conducted by "KAHRAMAA" and (ESCWA) are represented in estimating current and future demand of electric power during the period of 2005-2020, analyzing consumption types, evaluating electricity loads curve in different sectors, and reviewing energy in main energy consumption sectors' sites by selecting a sample according to specific standards in order to define priority fields that need consumption rationalization, energy efficiency improving and rush times' loads reduction.
