Fri Oct 2A logo that proudly proclaimed "30 years of supreme quality" filled the evening of Marriott Hotel's Makarim Hall on Dec 11, 2010 as the President of Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd., Mr. Jiro Kurashima, spoke in celebration of their 30th anniversary. Mr. Kurashima spoke amidst a packed gathering of more than 250 construction industry professionals. The event was also graced by Mitsubishi Electric's local partner Sheikh Aidroos Hassan Alesayi.

Mr. Kurashima announced the purchase of 2700 sq. mtrs site near Exit 17 that will serve as MELSA's Training Center, strengthening its commitment to quality and service excellence for customer delight.

This investment breathed life into the statement that Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd, a joint venture between Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) of Japan and Omar Kassim Alesayi & Co. Ltd (OMACO) of Saudi Arabia, is going to be more active and visible around for another 30 years and more to continue to expand what it delivers to companies across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which placed safety and quality above all else when it comes to elevator and escalator products.

Mr. Kurashima highlighted that MELSA's Training Center, which is planned for a December 2011 opening, will strengthen the ongoing Saudization program through which MELSA will train and develop a confident, competent, qualified, willing and hardworking Saudi workforce. This he felt will contribute immensely to the development of Saudi society.

Mr. Kurashima said that as MELSA prepared to celebrate their 30th year, he wanted to ensure the celebration would not be a congratulation of past achievements only, but an opportunity as well to reshape the organization as it "launches into its next 30 years and more."

MELSA, he said, has  secured 15,000 units in 30 years and there are currently big projects going on across the kingdom that will boost its position as one of the best, if not the best, companies in elevator and escalator business.

This sales achievement, he continued, has become a reality because of the dedicated and hardworking men in the organization, the support of the parent company MELCO and its joint venture partner OMACO; and the trust of the customers to the quality principle that MELSA stood up for in doing any business. With a workforce of about 1000 employees, Mr. Kurashima was confident that MELSA will keep continuing to grow in the right direction.

Mr. Kurashima also highlighted the many proud achievements of MELSA, which included the supply of the fastest elevators in Saudi Arabia in Al Faisaliah Center, Kingdom Center and Development of King Abdul Aziz Endowment (DOKAAE), which also has the largest concentration of high speed elevators in the world (200 Nos.). He also pointed out that Mitsubishi is the only company to supply and install spiral escalators in the world and that MELSA has installed the same in Jeddah Hilton Hotel.

Mr. Kurashima was delighted that MELSA was currently working on several mega landmark projects which include the King Saud University, King Abdullah Financial District etc.

The special occasion was likewise graced by the people from MELCO Japan namely Mr. Masahito Endo, Overseas Sales and Marketing - Building Systems Senior Manager, Mr. Hiroyuki Mizutani, Overseas Marketing - Building Systems Manager, Mr. Kazuya Matsuo, Overseas Affiliate Manager, Mr. Tamotsu Tsuchida, Overseas Sales Engineering Manager and from Mitsubishi Elevator Asia Co. Ltd. (AMEC), MELCO's factory in Thailand, Mr. Koichi Matsushita, Business Administration & Project Coordinating Division Manager.

During his speech, Mr. Endo congratulated MELSA on its completion of 30 years and remarkable sales achievement of 15,000 units and presented to MELSA's top management a plaque of recognition highlighting this wonderful milestone. He further emphasised the importance of Saudi Arabian market for MELCO business and was happy that the Saudi Arabian customers are highly quality conscious.

Mr. Mizutani presented about MELCO's global operations and informed that MELCO has supplied more than 800,000 units worldwide in 89 countries.

Anticipated part of the event was the seminars presented by MELCO for the new products. The new NEXIEZ Standard Machine Room System presented by Mr. Matshushita and the new Destination Oriented Allocation System (DOAS) presented by Mr. Tsuchida.

Mr. Tsuchida had a brief moment also during the event to discuss the Web based technical support known as EZ-Assist and the Green Eco, MELCO's response to environmental issues and global approaches to stop global warming.

The event was hosted by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed, MELSA's Deputy Marketing Department Manager, who also made an introduction about Mitsubishi Electric Saudi Ltd.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mushtaq highlighted that MELSA has been riding the wave of construction boom by garnering a market share of 26% in Saudi Arabia. Sales have been increasing continuously, which has seen the Company become the fastest growing elevator company in the kingdom.

The last 5 years alone, he said, have seen an average sale of about 1200 units per year, which has catapulted the Company to the undisputed No.1 position in the elevator industry in Saudi Arabia. The company has so far secured more than 15,000 units in more than 4500 projects.

Mr. Mushtaq also said that MELSA's service network is configured to reach out to any corner of the kingdom within a short notice and the average response time is less than 30 minutes in the major cities. MELSA, he said has about 9000 units under its maintenance care.

Mr. Matheen Ahmed Sayeed, MELSA's Vice President, gave a short but heart-warming closing remark thanking all the attendees and organizers of the event. He touched about the importance of the quality of elevating system. He said we can compromise on many things in a building but not on the quality of the elevators.

Mr. Matheen said for any elevating system, the parameters that govern the brand image are quality of product, quality of installation and quality of maintenance. Each activity, he said, complements the other two and all three activities form an integral part of the brand image.  His final remark left an indelible mark confirming Mitsubishi elevators as the highest selling brand in Saudi Arabia.
