13 February 2009
PowerMeMobile, the provider of MessageManager® suite of unique mobile messaging platform, announced today support for Sun's Solaris™ 10 Operating System (OS) and the OpenSolaris™ operating system in the upcoming 6.0 release of its award winning solution. Inclusion of Solaris is geared towards meeting the growing demand of large operators experiencing high levels of activity with above 20 million subscribers and throughputs of over 1000 sms/ sec.

Adding Solaris support to MessageManager® allows PowerMeMobile to tap into Sun's proven infrastructure software and rich development community to build and deploy highly scalable, high performance Web applications and services while offering improved performance and reliability to mobile operators.

Today's announcement provides customers with choice, allowing them to deploy on either x86 or SPARC systems using Solaris, or on x86 systems using Windows.

This deployment flexibility is needed as to recognize that a 'one size fits all' approach simply does not work in the mobile business competitive environment.

Solaris support completes the cycle started by PowerMeMobile last year of providing a major cross-platform interoperability by offering Sun Solaris and Windows as a platform, as well as Oracle and SQL Servers as a database.

Adding SPARC to the array of supported system gives customers accrued ability to tailor the architecture to their exact needs and budgets. About Solaris
Solaris is a Unix-based operating system introduced by Sun Microsystems in 1992 as the successor to SunOS. Solaris is known for its scalability, especially on SPARC systems, as well for being the origin for many innovative features such as DTrace and ZFS.[1] [2] Solaris supports SPARC-based and x86-based workstations and servers from Sun and other vendors, with efforts underway to port to additional platforms.

Solaris is certified against the Single Unix Specification. Although it was historically developed as proprietary software, it is supported on systems manufactured by all major server vendors, and the majority of its codebase is now open source software via the OpenSolaris project.
