"50% better than best practice "

Dubai - Novotel World Trade Centre has achieved the prestigious EarthCheck Certified status under the EarthCheck Certification Program managed by EC3 Global. EarthCheck recognises Novotel World Trade Centre's commitment to operating at the world's highest environmental standard.

Prior to achieving Certification, Novotel World Trade Centre successfully Benchmarked using the EarthCheck tool against key environmental indicators including energy and water consumption, waste sent to landfill and community commitment.

Novotel World Trade Centre chose to demonstrate their commitment to the environment by undertaking Certification - the highest level of the EarthCheck Program. The Certification process involves either an onsite audit or offsite assessment by an EarthCheck approved independent third party auditor. The successful completion of the Certification process demonstrates Novotel World Trade Centre's strong commitment to the principles of environmental sustainability.

The EarthCheck Program is a worldwide Benchmarking, Certification and performance improvement system, assisting the travel and tourism industry to attain sustainability. EarthCheck provides a certification system that responds directly to the major environmental problems facing the planet, including climate change, waste reduction and non-renewable resource management.

During the period measured in preparation for Earth Check Certification (1 January 2010 - 31 December 2010), Novotel World Trade Centre has generated some exceptional results. Some of these include;

1) Energy Consumption (MJ / Guest Night) for the year 2010 was 167.9 MJ / Guest Night, 50.0% better than the Best Practice level.

2) Water Savings Rating (Points) for the year 2010 was 97.2 Points, 17.2 Points better than the Best Practice level.

3) Potable Water Consumption (L / Guest Night) for the year 2010 was 279.1 L / Guest Night, which was 55.7% better than the Best Practice level.

In addition to being a leader in the region in water saving initiatives through installation of special devices in all showers, hand basins and bidets in guest rooms and public areas, the hotel also uses Eco friendly products, paper, room amenities and cleaning chemicals and all departments are active in energy saving, and recycling. Sheeba Tharayil, Hygiene Safety & Environment Manager at Novotel World Trade Centre adds, "The true value and success of the certification lies in each of our departments making contributions towards achieving the goal and its continual improvement. Our Earth Check Committee has put together an Action Plan, detailing the targets to be met in each area of the business. These have been implemented into the departmental SOPs and the whole team is actively driving them as well as developing new ideas  green initiatives".
