To Enhance Smoking Cessation Clinics In their countries
Novartis Consumer Health, who has previously started a Smoking Cessation Clinic by Nicotinell in UAE with the Ministry of Health and under the supervision of Dr. Ahmad Abdulla, Head of Preventive Medicine Department in Abu Dhabi, has organized a Seminar with workshops in Intercontinental Hotel Dubai to provide Healthcare Practitioners in Oman, Bahrain and Yemen with relevant Smoking Cessation information and experience necessary to enhance the same in their respective institutions.
The seminar provides important informative by Nicotinell on how to manage nicotine addiction by using Nicotinell patches and gums. Nicotinell is absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream and helps a smoker quit gradually without having to go through the distress of withdrawal symptoms.
The non- pharmacological means of treatment such as lifestyle management were also an essential part of the treatment.
Nicotinell gums and Nicotinell Replacement Therapy were other treatment options which were addressed and studied thoroughly.
The delegations who attended from Bahrain, Oman and Yemen also received valuable information on how to set up a smoking cessation clinic, the important procedures to take into consideration related to the smoking cessation process and the program required for the functioning of the clinic.
Tobacco control and steps to minimize and avoid this smoking habit and help participants in the clinic quit are issues that were also tackled in details.
Dr. Ahmad Abdulla conducted the training during the 2 day seminar and workshop sessions.

Dr. Khadhem J. Al Halwaji, Consultant Family Physician and Chief of Health Education Section in the Ministry of Health in Bahrain and Dr. Maha Al Mokla from Sitra Health Center, Ministry of Health Bahrain.

Novartis Consumer Health's objective is to provide a wealth of educational information and experiences, which were interactively shared and discussed during the seminar, to assist in the establishment of smoking cessation clinics in the region in general and in the gulf specifically. The goal is to help as many smokers as possible who want to quit this harmful habit but do not know how to start off achieving their goal.
