"The One Thing" becomes first Arab business model case study at MIT Sloan School

Dubai: 13 February, 2007- Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holding, has become the first Arab company to have a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management case study written for an Arab business strategy model.

The presentation of the "Tatweer and The One Thing" case study was made at a highly interactive session that the Executive Chairman of Tatweer, Saeed Al Muntafiq, held with senior faculty and students of the renowned Boston-based business and management education institution.

The case study written by post graduate MIT Sloan School students Omar Al Madhi, Samer Abdin, Shant Oknayan and Khalid Saiduddin, was praised for its high quality and unmatched collaboration between MIT Sloan School of Management and Tatweer.

The senior faculty members present at the event, representing both MIT Sloan School and Harvard Business School recommended the inclusion of "The One Thing" model in specific business management courses.

The success of the case study has been such that MIT Sloan School faculty members and Tatweer have agreed to monitor the development of "The One Thing" across Tatweer and its companies through a series of follow-up case studies to be written throughout the next two years.

"Dubai stands tall alongside the major cities of the world with its many world-class companies," said Saeed Al Muntafiq. "The fact that MIT Sloan School has developed a case study on "The One Thing", our business strategy and management model is an academic recognition of the high quality systems and procedures that drive Tatweer and its entities. We believe Tatweer best exemplifies the drive, determination, the ambition and the success of the emirate."

"This is the first time an Arab business model has been presented as a case study in the history of MIT Sloan School of Management. It is a prestigious academic honour for us and a firm recognition of the increasing role of the new and emerging Arab business management," added Al Muntafiq.

"The One Thing" model runs the strategic planning of Tatweer's businesses. It is an Arab response to strategic planning to suit the specific nature of Arab companies that operate in quickly evolving markets while depending on long term growth goals.

The model brings clarity to business management by aligning all goals and tasks to one simple two-year bound objective or promise to which all other business tasks converge, regardless of the nature of the company.

Saeed Al Muntafiq said: "It was a privilege to discuss "The One Thing" with the faculty and students of MIT Sloan School of Management. We look forward to hosting the researchers that will develop the new case studies for 2007 and 2008."

Prior to the MIT Sloan event, Saeed Al Muntafiq met with Dr. Susan Hockfield, President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to discuss opportunities for mutual collaboration.
