Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Dubai Press Club (DPC) announced that the “Media Leadership” program continues to boost the strategic competencies of media professionals during its weekly sessions, held at DPC headquarters, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi National Defense College (NDC) and the National Media Council (NMC).
The program was launched on October 6th 2016 in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated.
Her Excellency Mona Ghanim Al Marri, President of Dubai Press Club (DPC) affirmed that the DPC is keen to launch quality and specialized initiatives such as the “Media Leadership” program, with the aim to enhance the strategic competencies of the media professionals. This will further equip the media sector to stay abreast with changes and practices in the field; consequently, respond to regional and global issues efficiently.
Al Marri said that the program reflects DPC’s strategy aimed to equip the community and the media industry with media cadres capable of dealing rationally with various issues, while upholding the highest professional and ethical standards of media. She added that this is achieved through the exchange of expertise and constructive dialogue during the sessions where top managers of media organisations and specialized academic professionals are participating.
Al Marri further noted that the program will hone the participants’ analytical, research, critical thinking and evaluation skills. She also stressed that the next phase of the program will discuss profound issues related to designing the media strategy and policy development, in addition to the media role in maintaining the country’s security and preserving its gains.
The program has so far hosted a number of lecturers from the National Defense College in Abu Dhabi who add great value to the program’s lectures. The Georgian Ambassador Grigol Mgaloblishvili who have a long career in diplomacy serving in the Georgian Foreign Service for 19 years, before joining the National Defense College of the UAE as Associate Professor has lectured during the program. Mgaloblishvili was a visiting faculty member at the College of International Security Affairs at NDU. Throughout his career he served as the Prime-Minister of Georgia, Permanent Representative of Georgia to NATO, the Georgian Ambassador to Turkey and as a non-resident Georgian Ambassador to Albania and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The “Media Leadership” program also hosted Dr. John R. Ballard, Dean of the National Defense College in the United Arab Emirates, as a lecturer. Ballard had previously served as Professor of Military History and Strategy at the American Joint Forces Staff College. In addition to this, the program hosted Dr. Howard Gambrill who specializes in the Middle East affairs and had a long experience in counterterrorism and counter-violent-extremism (CVE) issues.

Participants from the Government of Dubai Media Office include, Corporate Support Director Abdullah Al Mansouri, Director of Media Services Salem Bel Youha, Director of Communications and Innovation Noora Al Abbar, Director of Strategy and Planning Nehal Badri, Senior Manager of Strategic Communications Noora Al Mansouri and Director of the Dubai Press Club Alia Al Theeb.
The “Media Leadership” program will conclude at the beginning of February with a graduation ceremony. The program reflects DPC’s instrumental role in supporting the UAE media sector through organizing training workshops and programs that will generate greater value to the media industry.
