Dubai's Irish Rose is honored in ceremony on The World

Dubai, 30 July 2007: Dubai Rose, Aileen McCarthy was yesterday crowned as Dubai's contender for the Rose of Tralee in an exclusive ceremony held on "Ireland" on The World. The Rose of Tralee International Festival, which takes place in Tralee, Ireland on 17-21 August this year, is a long-established annual event to seek out the loveliest Irish females from all over the world to compete for the coveted Rose of Tralee title.

This year's Dubai Rose, Client Handover Manager Aileen, was thrilled to formally commemorate her triumph with a visit to "Ireland" on The World, where she was publicly awarded her crown by Mark Waldron and Conor Farrell directors of O' Dolan International, the company behind the development of the island. The development titled "Ireland In The Sun" was unveiled in March of this year by Irish developers John O Dolan, Noel Connellan, Ray Norton and Andrew Brett to coincide with St Patrick's Day. When complete, the island of "Ireland" will be a 225,000 sq ft resort with a collection of homes, apartments, restaurants and retail stores amidst beaches, boating and leisure opportunities.

Twenty six year old Aileen, a Dubai expat for nearly 2 years, will represent Dubai in Ireland against 30 other contestants on 17th August. She says: "I am absolutely thrilled to represent both Dubai and Ireland in this celebrated Irish tradition and it is an honour to become the Rose of Ireland In The Sun."

"Ireland" is one of over 300 islands that form The World - an extraordinary development in the shape of the world map that is being created by Nakheel, the company that is also behind The Palm islands in Dubai. Situated just off the coast of Dubai, The World will add an additional 232 kilometres of beachfront to Dubai's coastline.

John O Dolan from Ireland In The Sun commented: "Our Ireland In The Sun won't just be another tropical paradise off the shore of Dubai.  It's a real taste of Ireland and Irish heritage, though a lot sunnier, and what better way to prove that than to crown our very own contender for the Rose of Tralee right here on the shores of Ireland in Dubai."

Broadcast throughout the world, the festival has become a time-honoured convention since 1959 and is firmly established on everyone's events calendar.

This year's 48th Rose of Tralee International Festival will welcome more roses than ever before to Tralee in August with the addition of some New International Centres, making it one of Ireland's biggest and longest running festivals. Roses will travel from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Luxembourg, Dubai and France to contend.
