Gone are the days of boxy automobiles that focus only on power and performance. Now it is the fine blending of power, performance and elegance. Mitsubishi Pajero short wheelbase (SWB) is a fine example of the new generation sports utility vehicle, which adds style and elegance with its curvy body styling. The Pajero SWB is ideal for those who seek absolute power packed in a small and luxurious automobile.

Mitsubishi Pajero is trusted for its durability, endurance and innovation. Pajero SWB inherits an envious heritage of motor-sport victories at some of the world's grueling testing grounds. Pajero has to its credit 6 consecutive victories and 11 overall Dakar victories along with several prestigious rally wins at Italian Baja and U.A.E Desert Challenge.

Powered by a 6-cylinder, 24-valve, SOHC, ECI Multi engine, Pajero SWB is available with options of a more powerful 3.8-litre and an economical yet powerful 3.0-litre engine. The 3.8-litre Pajero gives out 230 horsepower at 5,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 35.1 kg-m at 3,250 rpm, whereas the 3.0-litre engine delivers 190 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 27.0 kg-m at 4,500 rpm. It comes with M-ASTC (Mitsubishi active stability traction control system), Automatic Transmission INVECS - II 5-speed with sports mode, and the 3.0-litre version features all these but with 4-speed excluding M-ASTC.

A reliable workhorse, Pajero SWB has a suspension that is modern, independent and designed to offer excellent on and off-road performances. Its smaller size complement to its tighter and stiffer handling especially in corners and curves. Cruising in the fast lane and handling quick overtaking even at a top speed of 170 km per hour with its 3.0-litre engine is a pleasurable experience. Delivering a smooth and gentle drive, the SWB gives out surprisingly little tyre or wind noise even at 120 km per hour speed on highways.

Offering the luxury of cruise control, power steering, power windows, central locking, colour keyed electronically controlled door mirrors with defoggers (folding functions), Pajero SWB, like on off-road, is a perfect mate for cruising in the busy city roads. Complete with leather-clad seats, soft-touch dashboard, 4-spoke leather and wood steering wheels, the top of the range Pajero SWB opens a world of luxury with enough head and legrooms for all the occupants. Moreover, its large windows and high seating position gives the driver a good visibility and a sense of security.

Entertainment is assured with a host of accessories ranging from a 6-disc CD auto-changer, motor antenna with half height switch, to AM/FM (MPX) ETR Radio cassette player with 6 speakers. Adding a touch of elegance is its wood print centre panel, and wood print air outlet panels. Though it features a front fully automatic A/C and a cool box, it also provides the luxury to enjoy the weather outside with an electronically controlled tilt/sliding sunroof.

The short-wheelbase that is shorter than the five- door long wheelbase is tall and big with large chromed side mirrors and brawny bodywork with exaggerated wheel arches. To add to its looks and performance are its 17" alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. For this breed of rally proven marque, safety is of top priority. Apart from its ruggedly built body, it provides dual SRS front & side air bags, seat belts for all passengers, multi mode ABS, EBD and hydraulic brake booster. And finally, when it comes to its price, Mitsubishi Pajero SWB is worth every dirham.
