Powered by a 6-cylinder, 24-valve, SOHC, ECI Multi engine, Pajero SWB is available with options of a more powerful 3.8-litre and an economical yet powerful 3.0-litre engine. The 3.8-litre Pajero gives out 230 horsepower at 5,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 35.1 kg-m at 3,250 rpm, whereas the 3.0-litre engine delivers 190 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 27.0 kg-m at 4,500 rpm. It comes with M-ASTC (Mitsubishi active stability traction control system), Automatic Transmission INVECS - II 5-speed with sports mode, and the 3.0-litre version features all these but with 4-speed excluding M-ASTC.
A reliable workhorse, Pajero SWB has a suspension that is modern, independent and designed to offer excellent on and off-road performances. Its smaller size complement to its tighter and stiffer handling especially in corners and curves. Cruising in the fast lane and handling quick overtaking even at a top speed of 170 km per hour with its 3.0-litre engine is a pleasurable experience. Delivering a smooth and gentle drive, the SWB gives out surprisingly little tyre or wind noise even at 120 km per hour speed on highways.

The short-wheelbase that is shorter than the five- door long wheelbase is tall and big with large chromed side mirrors and brawny bodywork with exaggerated wheel arches.
