Jeddah , April 15, 2013 - The Middle East's leading product and interior designers will be officially recognised by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) at the upcoming INDEX International Design Exhibition and The Office Exhibition, conference organisers dmg:: events announced today. The awarding ceremonies for The 2013 Middle East Interior Design Competition and The 2013 INDEX & Office Exhibition Product Design Awards, organised by IIDA, will be held at the region's largest exhibitions for the architecture and design trade, which run concurrently from 20-23 May 2013 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The two competitions, created by IIDA with the support of dmg::events, will reward outstanding interior design projects across the Middle East as well as the region's best product designer with work on display at either one of the shows. IIDA is the professional networking and educational association for interior designers and the shows' official knowledge partner.
"This is IIDA's third collaboration with the INDEX and the Office Exhibition Trade Show and the Middle East Interior Design Competition," Cheryl Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP, Executive Vice President and CEO, IIDA, said. "Each year we look forward to celebrating excellence in product design and interior design in the Middle East, and year-on-year, we have seen a dramatic increase in both the standard and quantity of entries received. This year, we have already received some outstanding award applications so the bar is set very high. We look forward to announcing the winners at INDEX and Office in May, and to raising awareness of the quality and depth of design talent here in the region."
Frederique Maurell, Event Director for INDEX and The Office Exhibitions said, "Our role as the organizer of the region's largest and longest running design and interiors exhibition is also to celebrate and encourage the creativity of the region's best and most innovative designers. The IIDA competitions along with the INDEX Contemporary Majlis Design Competition and the Student Design Challenge - all taking place during the shows - will not only foster new talent but also shine a spotlight on Dubai as the undisputed regional hub for the design industry."
All interior designers and architects with a project located in the Middle East which was completed between 2010 and 2012 can take part into The Middle East Interior Design Competition. The competition will reward exemplary ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of interior spaces from different categories including corporate spaces, hotels, schools, hospitals, restaurants, shops and fitness centres.
Open solely to the companies exhibiting at the 2013 edition of the shows, the INDEX & Office Exhibition Product Design Awards will honour manufacturers and designers for their excellence in product design. Each competing product has to serve the residential and commercial office industries and fall under
one of the following categories: Applied Finishes/Materials Accessories or Specialties; Bathroom; Case Goods/Free-Standing Furniture; Decorative Accessories; Flooring; Kitchen; Lighting; Seating; Specialties; Tables; and Security/Technology.
Winners from both competitions will be selected by a panel of industry experts and announced at the Dubai World Trade Centre on the opening day of the two exhibitions, 20th May 2013.
