Ras Al Khaimah, UAE: Back strength, gait and correct posture are severely compromised in today’s predominantly sedentary lifestyle, and are among the biggest causes of chronic pain and other related ailments, warn doctors at RAK Hospital. In order to create awareness on the issue this World Physical Therapy Day, the Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Center at RAK Hospital is offering free screening for back strength and gait analysis at its premises during the month of September. Beginning from September 8th, the campaign will create awareness on ways to correct spine disorders, balance and postures and the different therapy techniques used in pre- and post-surgery cases.

The Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Center will be open to public on September 8th from 10am to 7pm for an onsite tour as part of their Open House programme. Attendees will get a chance to understand from the doctors the various treatment options before booking an appointment for any day after the event for free screening. The hospital staff will be present to answer any related inquiries.

“Physiotherapy is integral to maximizing recovery following an injury, illness or chronic disease,” said Ms Cornelia Gloor, Head of Department of Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Center at RAK Hospital, “It reduces pain, improves strength, balance, coordination and movement to maximize your ability to participate in everyday activities, prevent complications and promote health. Some of the services offered include rehabilitation for sports and spinal injury cases, joint pathologies, post-surgical rehabilitation and rehabilitation of neurology cases. We treat a variety of conditions and work with patients of all ages ranging from paediatric to the elderly. Various technologies are used to offer the best available treatment, which reduces dependency on medicine and focuses on alternative healing treatments.”

RAK Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Center offers the newest technologies such as the David Spine Concept, Hydrotherapy or Robowalk system, designed for training purposes and as a treatment to recover injuries.

Explaining the procedures, Ms Gloor said: “The David Spine Concept is a comprehensive evaluation and treatment concept for back disorders. We plan individualized programs based on a questionnaire, physical evaluations and tests, and use specially designed devices to improve mobility, strength and spinal coordination. Hydrotherapy, on the other hand, is a safe and effective method for healing injuries, increasing mobility and over-all fitness, using an underwater treadmill to perform stationary walking or running exercises.

“The h/p/cosmos Robowalk system is designed for the analysis and treatment of gait disorders. We are able to check the feet position and correct the way of walking or running if necessary.

The system is also used for patients with walking difficulties and are in need of support, due to weakness, less balance or paralysis for example after a stroke. Due to the safety belt patient is supported and can’t fall. The therapists can safely guide the feet and legs of the patient into the right position,” she added.
