Cairo, Egypt, Who better to understand the importance of body rituals than the people who practiced the art of holistic treatments and beautification since the time of Cleopatra. At the spectacular Hilton Luxor Resort, the Nayara Spa unites ancient Egyptian beauty rituals with state-of-the-art spa facilities.
Nayara Spa, which loosely translates as "shining inner beauty and wisdom", is the first international spa in the historic town of Luxor. With 12 treatment rooms, eight Nile-side spa bungalows and five spa suite guest rooms for the true spa connoisseur, the resort is leading the way in reviving an ancient Egyptian focus on sensory indulgence.
The stunning 2000-square metre Nayara Spa is on par with the most luxurious spa salons found in leading cities around the world and provides a contemporary retreat after a day of adventure and discovery. It is cutting edge in design and features clean white walls accentuated by finely carved oriental fretwork and mosaic tiled floors.
Nayara Spa offers a wide range of therapies from relaxing pedicures to deep tissue massages, but it is the four signature treatments that point to a long association with ancient Egypt.
The first of these is the Nayara Holistic Cocooning, a 70-minute treatment that taps into elements of the mummification ritual. Developed to immortalise the soul, the art of mummification was once believed to have the power to revive the spirit through purifying, wrapping, anointing and finally touching the body. In a similar manner, the Nayara Holistic Cocooning ritual begins when a blend of natural salt, almond oil and lavender oil is used to exfoliate the body before it is gently wrapped in rose water and rested inside a cocooning bed. After the ideal resting time, the Nayara therapist then applies a nourishing intense cream and massages the head and face to restore the senses.
A second hallmark treatment is the Nayara Nefertari Ritual which is said to bring out the Queen within. This 120-minute ritual is named after Queen Nefertari, who King Ramses II once immortalized with the words, "No one can rival her, for she is the most beautiful woman alive." The ritual starts with a luxurious hair mask and ends with a pampering full body massage and facial. The result is glossy hair, silky smooth skin and a glowing soul.
Prior to each ritual, guests are invited to maximise the spa's three steam rooms. There's a refreshing Herbal Steam Room with temperatures around 55 degrees Celsius and 60 percent humidity to invigorate the body, the Laconium Room, a dry Roman style room that slowly and gently heats the body in anticipation of further treatment, and the Amethyst Steam Room which is thought to calm the mind and alleviate anxiety. Here guests relax between glittering lilac and mauve tiled walls in 100 percent humidity and enjoy the "tranquilising" qualities radiating from a vase full of semi-precious amethyst stones.
Serious spa enthusiasts should also consider the resort's eight Nile-side treatment bungalows. Offering the ultimate location to catch the whisper of a river breeze, the two largest bungalows feature panoramic views over the venerated Nile. At 32 square metres each, they also house ice fountains, steam rooms, a scrub table and a huge tub for soaking and are available for both singles and couples.
Nourishing the tummy is as important as nourishing the body and Jannah restaurant located in the spa's inner courtyard offers a range of healthy snacks based on wholesome, natural foods with a choice of energising beverages.
From legendary Egyptian rituals that date back thousands of years, to modern day tonics and treatments from around the world, Nayara Spa offers the ultimate sensory enlightenment to anyone visiting Luxor.
