Doha, Qatar, 20 October 2010: Doha is poised to become the Gulf region's 'Capital of Green' as Qatar hosts the first Green Building Solutions Conference & Exhibition 2011, the country's first major sustainable development exhibition and conference from 2nd to 4th March 2011.
HE PM Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani patrons and inaugurates the event organized by the Barwa and Qatari Diar Research Institute (BQDRI) in partnership with Qatar Expo Event Management and Grey Doha.
Green Building Solutions 2011 will bring together real estate developers, consultants and designers, the energy industry, financial institutions, government ministries and industries motivated by the desire to ensure the principles of sustainable development are at the heart of all economic and social progress.
Green Building Solutions 2011 enjoys also the support of Qatar's leading real estate development companies, BARWA and Qatari Diar as the big event expects to welcome 100 local and international companies to the 7500 sqm Doha Exhibition Center. Among the sustainable development products and services on display will be water & waste management technology, environmental measuring systems, noise and air pollution, safety, security & disaster prevention equipment as well as regional and international environment organisations.
Launching Green Building Solutions 2011 to the international media at Barwa Knowledge headquarters, Chairman and Managing Director of the BARWA and Qatari Diar Research Institute (BQDRI) Dr. Yousef Al-Horr explained the significance of GBS 2011.
"It is Qatar's avowed aim to be a leading nation in the field of sustainable design, development and construction. At the forefront of our ambitious endeavour is Green Building Solutions 2011, a world class event and the seed that will create a green legacy for generations to come," said Dr. Al-Horr.
"GBS 2011 calls upon all organisations involved in designing, constructing and maintaining Qatar's built environment to come together to focus on addressing the environmental challenges affecting the construction industry and our world," says Dr. Al-Horr.
an elite group of experts and professors are participating in the Green Building Solutions 2011, where they will discuss in three days major issues related to green buildings and implementing it in our region whilst top-level local and international construction companies and environment experts present an inspiring series of workshops, presentations and speeches, including a workshop introducing delegates to the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS).
Demonstrating Qatar's commitment to building a sustainable environment, Green Building Solutions 2011 presents a platform to raise international awareness of QSAS, the first sustainable development rating system designed specifically for the unique Middle East environment.
Developed by the Barwa Qatari Diar Research Institute, QSAS allows developers to create a sustainable urban environment that reduces environmental impacts while satisfying client and community needs. In addition to addressing all locally relevant aspects of sustainability, ecological impact and green building design criteria, QSAS promotes a standalone building energy standard.
