Amman, Jordan - Hani Shaker attended a press conference on Thursday July 26, 2007 at the Radisson SAS for his participation at the Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts. A large number of the local media attended, asking the artists an array of questions regarding his participation at the Jerash Festival. Hani Shaker has been an avid participant at the annual Festival with his first performance in 1999 and his latest in 2005. This year's Festival has a special significance as it is the 25th anniversary of the Festival, marking this year's Festival's Silver Jubilee.
Hani Shaker, known as the "Prince of Tarab," started his career in his youth, starring in the film "Sayed Darweesh" as the young Darweesh. Shaker continued his career throughout his youth and later performed in the choir of Abed Al Haleem Hafith's piece, "Bil-Ahdan."
Hani Shaker's talent was discovered by Mohammad Al Moogi in 1972, where Hani performed "Hilwa Ya Donia". It is said that when the public heard the song "Hilwa Ya Donia," this voice resembled the renowned artists Abed Al Haleem Hafith. Later in his career, Hani Shaker featured with Abed Al Haleem Hafith in "Kidda Bardo Ya Kamar," marking his success and tagging him with the title "Prince of Tarab."
Hani Shaker has released many albums, singing approximately 470 various songs, some happy and some touching. Hani Shaker also continued starring and singing on the big screen in 3 films, two of which were a large success: "Hatha Ohiboh wa Hatha Oridoh" (That One I Love, and that One I Want), Aaysheen Al Hoob (Living Love) and "Indama Noghani Al Hob" (When Singing About Love). Hani Shaker also joined the thespian community, acting on stage in plays such as "Cinderella Wal Maddah" (Cinderella and Her Admirer) and "Misr Bil Douniya" (Egypt in the World). He also performed in national operas, "Anshoodet Al Orooba" (Arabian Anthems) at Saudi Arabia's Al Janadriya Festival.
Hani Shaker has also received various awards in recognition for his talent. He was endowed with an award from Bin Zain Al Abideen Bin Ali; Shaker was the second recipient of this award after Fairuz. Shaker also received the Palestine Award by Sayeb Ariqat after being one of the first artists to perform in Palestine. Other awards included Best singer in the Past Ten Years and the People's Choice Award in Tunisia.
