Doha, Qatar, 12 September, 2012
Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar's premier non-profit healthcare provider , this morning launched, in cooperation with international energy company ConocoPhillips, Qatar, a five-year national campaign to improve health and safety in the State of Qatar.
At the press conference to mark the launch, Ali Al Janahi, Chief of Business Services and senior representative of Hamad Medical Corporation stated: "HMC is proud of its cooperation with ConocoPhillips to launch the "Kulluna" for "Health and Safety" campaign in Qatar, which will extend over the period up to 2016.
This campaign is coordinated by the Hamad International Training Center (HITC) to create and foster awareness among nationals and expats in Qatar about over the basic and essential principles and actions required to ensure wellbeing and safety. The Campaign's key messages and activities reflect closely the strategy set out by HH the Emir of the State of Qatar and the Heir Apparent in the Qatar 2030 Vision and its associated development strategies.
"The contributions made by international corporate entities operating in Qatar, such as ConocoPhillips, are a cornerstone in the development of the Qatar community - both nationals and expats. We praise ConocoPhillips's initiative in this regard and we encourage other similar industrial and business entities to follow suit." Commenting on the name of the campaign she said 'We certainly believe that the health and safety of every individual living in Qatar is a joint responsibility, that should bring us all together as individuals and as communities; the name "Kulluna," - "All of us"" is very fitting."
ConocoPhillips Qatar President, Gary Sykes, expressed his company's appreciation of the support it received from both HMC and the Hamad International Training Center. He stated: "On behalf of ConocoPhillips, I would like to express our happiness at joining hands with the Hamad Medical Corporation and the Hamad International Training Center to launch the "Kulluna" for Health and Safety in Qatar campaign. At ConocoPhillips, Health and Safety are two core commitments. It is our collective goal to eliminate all injuries, occupational illnesses, unsafe practices and incidents of environmental harm from our activities. We strongly believe that our work is never so urgent or important that we cannot take the time to do it safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. The ConocoPhillips SPIRIT values - Safety, People, Integrity, Responsibility, Innovation and Teamwork - that inspire all our actions also confirm that wellness and safety are at the head of our corporate priorities. It is those values that we hope to spread and foster through the "Kulluna" campaign."
"In approaching HMC to work with us we sought to translate our corporate commitment to these values to our community in Qatar; this is a responsibility we endeavor to fulfill in all of our host countries. Yet, such outreach would have been fruitless if not for the fertile soil cultivated by the Qatar leadership, represented by His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, HH the Heir Apparent and HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser. By re-investing the country's affluent revenues into the vital areas of health and safety, this visionary and responsible leadership has indeed confirmed in a very practical way the inherent, elementary principles of the national 2030 vision and strategy. It has also set the framework and direction for joint ventures and initiatives such as
Dr Khalid Abdulnoor Saifeldeen, Director of the Hamad International Training Center (HITC) said: "In support of the Qatar National 2030 Vision and the National Development Strategy, Hamad Medical Corporation and ConocoPhillips have recently partnered to organize a National Health and Safety awareness campaign in order to raise levels of public awareness regarding general health issues, personal safety, HMC services and lifesaving practices within the State of Qatar."
"The program will be conducted under the umbrella of Hamad Medical Hospital and the Hamad International Training Center, and will be in the form of movable, interactive public events. Hamad International Training Center, representing HMC, will execute the program whilst ConocoPhillips Qatar will provide the funding for these activities as well as provide the necessary support for the program.
Our mission is to raise public awareness and influence behavior related to important health issues, with particular emphasis on improving individual and family health, safety and wellness within the State of Qatar. We seek to promote healthier lifestyles; influence those behaviors that affect the health and safety of everyone in the community (precaution, prevention and intervention); create awareness of existing medical services and facilities offered by HMC; and to highlight the importance of corporate social responsibility.
"The first part of the campaign, October-December 2012," said Dr Saifeldeen, "will be dedicated to children safety through a target campaign" titled: "KEEP US SAFE!" "In this context, we are happy to welcome "Safe Kids Worldwide," as an international non-government organization that specializes in child safety.
Together with Safe Kids Worldwide, HITC will aim to introduce specific child safety courses, such as their 'Child Passenger Safety Technician' certification course.
Kate Carr, President and CEO, Safe Kids Worldwide said: "It is indeed a pleasure to be here today to support this joint initiative between Hamad Medical Corporation and international energy company ConocoPhillips. The World Health Organization tells us that each year, nearly one million children die around the world from unintentional injuries. Millions more are severely injured, often sustaining injuries that lead to life-long impairment or disfigurement. The human cost of child injuries is staggering, as is the economic cost in terms of productivity to families, communities and countries.
