Dubai - The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announces the completion of an Aviation Security (AvSec) Instructor's Course held 02-12 April 2005.This course was presented by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the international body that regulates civil aviation on a world-wide basis. The purpose of the course was to transfer the knowledge and skills for Instructors involved in Aviation Security training to provide effective and comprehensive aviation security courses to personnel under their charge.

The actual presentation of the AvSec Instructor's Course was conducted by Agnieszka Mizgalska from the ICAO Head Office in Montreal, Canada, ably assisted by Capt. Mohammed Aziz from Middle East Airlines in Beirut.

The course was attended by representatives from the Dubai Police, Emirates, Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, IRBIS, Dubai Dept. of Civil Aviation, Arab Air Carrier's Organization (AACO) and Airport Security International (UK).

Mohammed Ghanim Al Ghaith, the Director General of the GCAA, stated that "Aviation Security is an increasingly important element in the overall focus on aviation safety and security. It is important that persons responsible for aviation security training in their various organizations do this training in a comprehensive and effective manner. To this end, ICAO have developed a Standard Training Package (STP) which serves this purpose. The GCAA lauds this achievement and reaffirms that our primary interest is always to ensure the safety of the flying public."
