Dubai: Forbes Middle East has released its list of some of the Middle East’s most skilled and successful young pioneers, highlighting the gamechangers and rule-benders working to disrupt our lives—and all were under 30 years old as of December 31, 2019.

The list looks across eight categories Education, Entertainment & Sports, Marketing, Manufacturing & Industry, Law & Policy, Retail & F&B, Social Entrepreneurs, and Technology and recognizes a selection of the most highly-accomplished young minds in that field in the Middle East.

Some of them, like Khaled AlShathri, the 28-year-old founder Saudi shipping company Norabic, have already built and scaled multi-million-dollar businesses. Others, like Saeid Alzahrani, the 26-year-old

founder of drone manufacturer BRAQ Aerospace, have patented and championed cutting-edge technology. And a couple, like Mohamed Dhaouafi, the 27-year-old founder of prosthetic limb maker Cure Bionics, or Spandana Palaypu, the 24-year-old founder of employment platform ZoEasy, are making a considerable difference in the lives of other people. For all 30, their achievements at such a young age are incredibly impressive.

The two youngest people on the list are just 20 years old. Tunisian Saeed Zarrouk founded the Edutest Group, which advocates and enhances access to quality education by identifying, empowering, and connecting students to scholarship foundations and financial aid. Whereas Lebanese Kamel Wehbe’s role as the first National Youth Liaison to the Lebanese President has seen him influencing overall national policy in favor of the youth of Lebanon while he himself is still in university.

To choose its 30 Under 30, Forbes Middle East looked at the candidates’ missions, as well as their efforts to innovate, introduce or accelerate new concepts in the Middle East. And it consulted independent judges from the Forbes Middle East Tech Council and a couple of the region’s biggest NGO foundations to give their thoughts and expert opinions: Dr. Moudhi Aljamea, Digital Technology General Manager at the stc Academy; Yuri Misnik, Group CTO at the First Abu Dhabi Bank; Dr. Sonia Ben Jaafar, CEO of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education; Haifa Dia Al-Attia, Founding CEO of the Queen Rania Foundation; and Zeina El Kaissi Chief Digital Director, Smart Dubai Office.

Nominations came in from 26 different nationalities. To be eligible for the 30 Under 30 list, applicants had to have been under 30 years old on December 31, 2019, meaning that anybody born in 1990 or later was eligible to be on the list. Candidates could have any nationality, but had to be residing in the Middle East, and if one business had two under 30 co-founders, they were counted as one entry. The final 30 comprises of residents of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Kuwait, and Tunisia.
